Massive Pokemon leak reveals Switch 2 details, source code, Gen 10 and more

A major leak from Pokemon developer Game Freak has put source code for older games into the wild, revealed files for an in-development competitive multiplayer game reminiscent of Splatoon, confirmed Gen 10 and revealed the codename official for Switch 2. “Ounce”.

Game Freak has been the driving force behind game development in the Pokemon series for decades at this point, and the franchise has remained at the forefront of the gaming world. And now, thanks to a leak that reportedly uncovered more than a terabyte of files, fans know what the next steps are for the series.

The first is the Switch 2’s codename, “Ounce.” According to the leaked files, the Pokemon Gen 10 game will be called “Gaia” and is in development for the upcoming console.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the latest entry in the Pokemon series, and it’s almost 2 years old now.

Additionally, the source code for Black and White 2 has allegedly been leaked, as well as Heart Gold and Soul Silver. These files are reported to be beta versions of the game.

There were also files for a multiplayer game codenamed “Synapse”, a collaboration with ILCA, a developer that has made spin-off games in the Pokemon series. Leaks indicate that it is intended to be a multiplayer game in the Pokemon universe that is separate from the Gen 10 title.

According to data miners who have examined the files, the competitive game would allow players to import Pokémon from Virtual Console versions of the original Gen 1 games, with gameplay similar to Splatoon.

It’s still unclear if the Pokemon Gen 10 game will be exclusive to “Ounce,” or if we can expect it to be on the original Switch as well. The files show that Game Freak is testing it on the Switch 1, but that doesn’t confirm it’s coming to the system.
