Kurt Angle says that this WWE star has talked about his drug problem

Rampant substance use in the WWE locker room was a serious problem before the Chris Benoit double murder-suicide incident forced the promotion to modify its wellness policy and take serious steps to both reprimand and help WWE stars who suffer from addiction. Kurt Angle acknowledged the underlying issue of substance abuse in the locker room during his reign and also explained why he thinks “Stone Cold” Steve Austin would have made a difference had he stayed.

“I think Steve would have been the one to talk, because he had a problem with it before,” Angle said during an interview with “WFAN.” The veteran was quick to point out that Austin’s “problem” wasn’t that big and quickly kicked him, but because of the leadership he commanded, he would have pushed the locker room to get going.

Angle then talked about his own addiction, admitting that he hid it pretty well and that the only people who knew about it were those who did it with him, revealing that his “faction” at the time was involved as well. “Unfortunately, those guys didn’t keep the job very long and they got fired, and I was left alone, and I was still picking up,” the veteran admitted. As Angle points out later in the interview, today WWE has made strides in caring for its talent, noting that there are no longer any cases of WWE Superstars with crippling addictions or substance overdoses.
