A group of children living on the estate next to Zoe’s Place Hospice have come together to raise vital funds. The much-loved center in Yew Tree Lane, West Derby, provides respite, palliative and end-of-life care for babies and children up to five years of age.

It has supported countless local families in their most difficult times. Devastated staff and families of children cared for at Zoe’s Place said on Monday the center would close before the end of the year and staff would lose their jobs within 30 days.

Since the news broke, people in Liverpool and beyond have been doing everything they can to try and raise the money Zoe’s Place needs to stay in the city. Some of those helping to raise vital funds are a group of children aged between six and 12 who live on the estate in Grange Avenue, next to Zoe’s Place.

Leanne Robinson’s son Harrison is one of the children raising money. Leanne said it was all Harrison’s idea and she wanted to help the hospice as her best friend’s younger brother Lucas is supported by Zoe’s Place.

The kids have been knocking on neighbors’ doors wearing T-shirts to raise funds and a can from Zoe’s Place which they filled in three hours. Leanne, 42, said: “They filled the tub to the brim in three hours. Today they come out again with a taped tin with a slot in the top.

“They all live on the Grange Estate and have grown up together. Zoe’s Place is right on our doorstep. I went up to the football with them with another can and now they’re back on the estate.”

He added: “We’re very proud. The amount of neighbors who have come and called my house and said ‘I can’t believe what your son is doing’. I’ve had messages from people I went to the school saying I want to leave money, so it’s not just people from the estate, it’s people leaving money from all over.”

Leanne said they are an “amazing bunch of kids” and was “heartbroken” by the news of the hospice’s potential closure, saying: “It’s such a special place and it needs to stay open.”

Zoe’s Place needs a new home as the lease on the current location is up next year. The charity says it needs £5m to build a new facility which will keep the hospice in the city. But with plans to shut down the site already underway, there are only 30 days left to save it.

The Liverpool ECHO will be joining the people of Liverpool in campaigning over the next 30 days to galvanize as much support as possible and we know we will be joined by many people across the city and region as we fight to keep this amazing facility in Liverpool. supporting families who need it so much.

The ECHO wants to hear from everyone who wants to join this campaign and everyone who is fundraising for Zoe’s Place. We are open to all ideas. Please contact [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]. You can also follow our live coverage of the fundraising campaign here.
