Nintendo unveils Alarma, Nintendo’s sound clock

Nintendo has announced a new alarm clock. While we may not yet be privy to a Switch successor, Nintendo has done the Nintendo thing of taking an everyday object and, well, Nintendo it. It looks crazy, and we absolutely want one.

Alarm will wake you up the Nintendo way. This means it uses sounds and images of main characters from games like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to start your day.

Sounds and visuals are one thing, but Nintendo is no stranger to motion controls. It should come as no surprise, then, that Alarma also has motion sensors that respond to your movements. This may sound strange at first, but hear us out. With Alarm, you can practically hit that snooze button by simply moving your arm. Don’t you want that in your life? The device comes with a more traditional button to snooze the old way, just in case.

Your morning routine can be adapted to one of 35 Nintendo themed scenes. Aside from the aforementioned Mario and Zelda options, you’ll also get access to Pikmin 4 and Ring Fit Adventure. Additionally, scenes from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be released as free updates in the future, although you’ll need to connect your My Nintendo account to access them.

Here’s how Nintendo puts the Alarma experience:

In the morning, you’ll experience immersive sounds and music from your chosen scene. Experience the sounds of the Mushroom Kingdom with Mario and friends, start your day’s adventure with Link and Princess Zelda, or start over with the Inklings of Splatoon 3. And these are just some of the experiences you can wake up to!

Sleep is very important, and Alarma is not only here to help you wake up. You can also check your logs to see how much you move during your sleep, set an hourly ringtone themed to your chosen title, and switch between steady or soft modes for your morning alarm.

Steady mode activates an alarm that will gradually get louder the longer you stay in bed, while Soft mode offers a more constant intensity level. You can even use sleepy sounds to relax yourself with soothing music and sounds at bedtime.

Currently, Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members can only purchase Alramo in the United States and Canada through the My Nintendo Store. If you’re not a member, you can sign up of course, or you can go to the Nintendo NY store.

If you are in other territories, you can pre-register for early access to Alarma.

Check out the trailer below, which shows how the alarm works and some of the different characters and sounds available.
