Mark Cuban shocked the sports world when he sold the Dallas Mavericks for $3.5 billion last year. Cuban, who bought the team from Ross Perot Jr. for $285 million in 2000, he has always been a hands-on owner. During his tenure, the Mavs captured an NBA title in 2011.

However, during his recent appearance on the “BIG Podcast” with Shaquille O’Neal, Cuban explained why he decided to part ways with the franchise. The former Mavs owner, who recently praised Luka Doncic, revealed two key reasons behind the move.

I sold the team for two reasons: one, my sons who are 15, 18 and 21 years old. As I get older, it puts a lot of pressure on them to make a decision, are they going to lead the team? It has been solved for some families and other kids just hate it, leave it resentful. I don’t want to put my kids in that positionCuban said.

“And secondly, I always had a head start going in. But what’s happening now, and you saw it with Golden State, now with Boston, is you build all over the arena and the arena becomes a center point for a bigger real estate development and for me to bring in a billion dollars to do that shit for me.”, he added.

AJ Lawson returns to the Dallas Mavericks on a two-way deal after being waived

The Dallas Mavericks made a roster move on Tuesday, waiving AJ Lawson from his non-guaranteed contract. While some fans speculated that this could mean a big-name addition to the team, the Mavericks had other plans, returning Lawson as a two-way player.

Lawson originally signed a four-year, non-guaranteed contract this offseason, but now he’s back with the team in a slightly different role. Last season, he played in 42 games for the Mavericks, averaging 3.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.

In addition to Lawson, the Mavericks currently have Kessler Edwards and Brandon Williams signed to two-way contracts. The Mavericks are also keeping an eye on Jazian Gortman, who impressed during preseason games.
