During a virtual briefing, President Joe Biden had a bit of an awkward moment while talking about hurricane recovery efforts. He praised those working in the field, saying: “I think we have saved lives, not me, but we, all of us in the field, have saved lives. But there is more to do, and I will do everything in my power power to do so.” As he turned to the last page of his notes, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, who was sitting next to him, noticed that he was about to finish his speech and gave him a light tap on the arm, pointing to the monitor where Vice President Kamala Harris. I was waiting to talk.

In response, Biden quickly replied, “I know,” and assured, “I’m going to the vice president in a second.” He then jokingly referred to Granholm as “my boss”. Biden continued to speak for a few more moments, even addressing Harris directly, saying, “Wait a second, Madam Vice President,” as he tried to wrap up his remarks. He also mentioned that his administration would ask Congress for additional funds to support hurricane recovery efforts. Finally, he turned to Harris and concluded, “So with that, I’m going to yield to the president, I mean the vice president,” prompting laughter from those attending the briefing.

There have been rumors of tension between Biden and Harris recently. Reports suggest that Biden has privately expressed his frustration, feeling that Harris and the Democratic Party have shifted their focus away from him since he announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race in July. He is said to be unhappy with Harris for not emphasizing his accomplishments and policies enough during his campaign appearances as he prepares for the upcoming election.

However, White House spokesman Andrew Bates dismissed those claims, calling the reports “the opposite of the truth.” Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump weighed in on the speculation, saying at a rally: “He’s mad, he’s mad at her.”
