Siesta Key residents return home to debris and sand filling roads throughout the area

SIESTA KEY, Fla. (WWSB) – Residents of Sarasota County and surrounding areas entered Siesta Key for the first time since Hurricane Milton made landfall after the bridge reopened.

Trees, power lines, sand and debris littered the streets of Siesta Key after Hurricane Milton hit the area Thursday night. Many homes were damaged, including a home that had no front door, a broken garage door, and a collapsed wall on the side of the home.

After circulating throughout the area, flooding was also frequent in many neighborhoods. Although Milton’s storm surge receded, there was still about half a foot of water in many areas. Some people were pumping water out of those roads that were still struggling with flooding.

Residents who live on the beach assessed the damage to what was once their safe place and say it wasn’t as bad as they expected and hope the community recovers, as this isn’t the first time they’ve been there. this situation

Upon reaching the beach, roads were damaged by what appeared to be storm surge and sand filled nearby roads after being washed away. About 10 neighbors walked along the beach to see what they say could have been worse.

During the damage the Siesta Key community suffered, neighbors are already coming together to help each other. A resident who is originally from St. Petersburg traveled to the area to lend a hand. He also wanted to spread the word about caution when hiring people to clean his gardens. He says that while desperate times call for desperate needs, it’s important to beware of being scammed.
