Manchester United exit talk tackled as £30m man reacts to claims Euro giants want him

The international breaks are usually the time when players linked with an exit open up about their future, and things are no different for Manchester United’s £30m free man.

Almost inevitably, when he arrived to speak to the media ahead of this weekend’s UEFA Nations League clashes, some seemed more interested in working out their transfer plans than Friday night’s clash with Slovakia

But Victor Lindelof, facing an uncertain future as his Manchester United contract enters the final year, was in no mood to feed the media machine.

Reports this week claimed that Lindelof could leave Man United for AC Milan. Former Red Devils team-mate and Sweden icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic is working as an adviser to the Serie A giants these days.

Lindelof has also been heavily linked with a move to Turkey. Potentially one that could see him reunite with Jose Mourinho, Sofyan Amrabat and Fred at Fenerbahce.

But as far as Lindelof is concerned, Manchester equals home. Not only for him, but also for his young family.

“There have been a lot of rumors about me for a number of years,” Lindelof tells a press conference. “But my only aim is to come back and play and help my team-mates at United. I don’t think much about what is written (in the media).

“I’ve been (at Old Trafford) for a long time. This will be my eighth year. A lot has happened in my career and life.

“It’s a place that means a lot to me. The two children were born there.”

Lindelof, who turned 30 in the summer, joined Man United from Portuguese giants Benfica in 2017. l

After falling down the pecking order, and with his contract expiring next July, the defender may be powerless to prevent his departure from a club he has represented 260 times.

Lindelof’s wife recently indicated they may look to stay in England should United opt to renew the centre-back’s deal. A move to another Premier League team is an option that could be considered.

“I actually love England. We’ve been living there for seven years,” Maja Nilsson told the Ursakta podcast a couple of months ago, the idea of leaving the UK a source of great concern.

“It really is like my home. We have been lucky because Victor has signed for five years at a time. We have friends who have moved every year and (because the footballer is) on loan. I suffer with them.

“I have started a grieving process, because we don’t know. You never know what will happen.”

Lindelof is not the only Scandinavian star to open up this week about the uncertainty surrounding his status at Manchester United. Christian Eriksen is another who could leave for free in the summer of 2025.

He admits that a new contract has not yet been negotiated. Eriksen is glad to have survived a brutal summer sacrifice at United, however, as talks with Ajax and Anderlecht stalled before the window closed.
