Temporary shelter issued in Plaquemine due to a leaking pipe

IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (WAFB) – Emergency officials are asking residents in part of Plaquemine to temporarily shelter in place after a gas pipeline sprung a leak on Friday morning, October 11th.

According to the Iberville Parish government, a gas pipeline leaked on Highway 75 (Belleview Road) in Plaquemine, just south of Plaquemine High School.

As of 11 a.m., the shelter in place at Plaquemine High has been lifted. Pecan Meadow remains a temporary “shelter in place.” A section of Highway 75 (Belleview Rd.) remains closed.

ExxonMobil is on the scene, officials confirmed.

The valve has been closed and the rest of the product is spreading, according to parish officials.
