Illinois 2024 election results: Ballot measures election interference

One of the three non-binding measures to Illinois voters on Tuesday, asked whether candidates who interfere or attempt to interfere with the duties of a poll worker should be subject to civil penalties.

Illinois State Senator Don Harmon and Illinois State Representative Jay Hoffman sponsored Illinois Senate Bill 2412which included the three advisory questions, this spring. The bill passed the Illinois House and Senate in early May. Non-binding advisory questions like this have no legal effect on a state’s laws, but allow government officials to gauge public opinion.

The formulating the question regarding electoral interference on the ballot read:

“Should any candidate appearing on the Illinois ballot for federal, state or local office be subject to civil penalties if the candidate interferes or attempts to interfere with the official duties of an election worker?”
