Latest US Elections: Early Results Predicted in – With Shifts to Trump Reported | News from the USA

Polls have closed so far in 25 states plus the District of Columbia.

Donald Trump is projected to win in three of them: Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia, while Kamala Harris will win Vermont.

No surprises there, and we’ll have to wait until later in the morning to get a fuller picture of the results in the key battleground states of Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

The recent runoff closes at 1 a.m. with 171 Electoral College votes between them, the biggest closing time of the night and includes Pennsylvania, the most hotly contested battleground state, as well as Florida .

As we wait for the votes to be counted in North Carolina, we have some early indications of how 2020 voters have moved.

An NBC News North Carolina exit poll shows black and white voters moving in different directions

In the North Carolina presidential race, Trump is gaining ground among black and Hispanic voters compared to 2020 — and Ms. Harris is bettering Biden’s performance among white voters.

Four years ago, 7% of black voters voted for Trump in the face-off against Biden. Tonight, 12% said they voted for Trump.

Among Latin American voters, there was a similar shift – Trump is improving his performance in this group compared to 2020.

Among black voters in the Tar Heel State, the gender gap has widened since 2020 — a change that is attributed to changing preferences among black men.

Tonight, 20 percent of black men say they support Trump — up from just 8 percent in 2020.
