Home invasion suspect shot, killed after Phoenix officers lead on chase: police

A gunman was shot and killed in south Phoenix Monday night after officers led a brief chase, police said.

Phoenix Police say the incident began around 10pm on November 4 when officers responded to reports of a home invasion nearby. 15th Avenue and Chipman Road.

“The caller told 911 operators that a man was forcing his way into the home and was armed with a gun,” police said.

When officers arrived at the home, they found a pickup truck leaving the area with the possible suspect inside. Officers attempted to stop the truck, but the driver continued and led police on a short chase before crashing into a nearby wall. 15th and Wier Avenue.

Police say the driver then got out of the truck with a gun in his hand.

A home invasion suspect was shot and killed Nov. 4 after leading officers on a chase in south Phoenix, police said.

“Officers ordered the male to stop and drop the weapon as the male continued to run toward a residence,” police said. “As the male reached the driveway of the residence, he raised a gun at the officers, which caused the officers to fire their handguns.”

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was only identified as being in his early 40s.

No officers were injured.

Police say two handguns were found on the suspect and a shotgun was found in his truck.

“It was later determined that the male was the suspect involved in the original home invasion call,” police said. “Detectives continue to process the crime scene as the investigation remains active.”
