Second arrest made following an incident at Meridian High School

Branderious McShan, a resident of Meridian, was arrested on Friday, November 1, 2024, in connection with an incident of aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon on the educational property of Meridian High School. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

McShan was taken into custody by Meridian Public School District (MPSD) campus police. He is currently being held on a $2,000,000 bond.

Initially, investigators believed the incident was an act of vandalism. Upon further investigation, it was determined that a suspect attempted to enter a targeted vehicle on campus. In the midst of the burglary, the suspect discovered the vehicle was occupied.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and a shot was fired.

Officers confirmed the fire after finding a casing later that day.

MPSD Campus Police Chief Cornelius Parks expressed his gratitude for the quick resolution of the case, thanking International Security and the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance. “I would like to thank Homeland Security and the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in making sure there was a quick resolution to the situation,” Parks said.

Dr. Amy Carter, Superintendent of the MPSD, praised the efforts of the Campus Police, emphasizing the district’s commitment to safety. “I want to thank the MPSD Campus Police for the quick apprehension of the suspect. Their tireless work demonstrates our commitment to ensuring our students and staff are in safe learning environments, which remains our top priority,” said Carter.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Earlier this morning, Meridian High School was placed on lockdown following reports of shots fired nearby. MPSD Campus Police quickly responded to the scene and confirmed that no injuries occurred on campus.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that a vehicle parked on campus had been targeted, suspected of being an act of vandalism. MPSD Campus Police, along with the Meridian Police Department, are actively investigating the incident.

One person has been detained as part of the ongoing investigation. However, officers are still looking for an additional suspect who fled the area on foot.

“We want to reassure parents and the community that students and staff are safe on campus,” said MPSD Campus Police Chief Cornelius Parks.
