Illinois man punches election judge after refusing to stand in line to vote on felony charges

An Illinois man was so eager to vote Sunday morning that he jumped the line and punched an election judge who told him to wait his turn, ABC News reports.

Orland Park police arrested Daniel Schmidt, 24, for “causing a disturbance in the voting line” at the polling station, police said. He refused the first election judge who told him to go behind the voting line, prompting a second to confirm the order.

“Schmidt attempted to walk past the election judge and was prevented from entering by that judge and several other employees,” then “started yelling profanities and punched the election judge in the face, knocking off his glasses,” said the police.

Other voters swung into action at that point, detaining Daniels until police arrived, where he again tried to resist arrest, police said.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved four Class 3 felony counts of aggravated assault on a victim over 60 and aggravated assault in a public place, five counts of resisting arrest and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct .
