A co-owner of Cabest Jewellery, the jewelery store in Adabraka, a suburb of Accra, where a robbery took place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, said his company never used a bullion van to transport money after any business transaction .

According to him, the company, which handles millions of Ghana Cedis for the purchase of raw gold, chose not to use an armored vehicle for good reasons.

“He (the customer) had come for the money and just as he was leaving, after he was paid, the incident happened. I’m not going to lie about this incident. The truth is, we have never used a bullion van for our trades. We decided not to attract too much attention. So we use regular cars to transport money after our business transactions,” said the co-owner.

Meanwhile, he and his brother, Clement Amos Baffour, who jointly own Cabest Jewellery, have decided to repay the customer all the money stolen from him during the armed robbery.

According to the owners, about GH¢7.5 million was stolen from the customer who supplied them with raw gold.

“I am a partner with Mr. Baffour. The amount we paid him was stolen over GH¢6.2 million. He had gone elsewhere to get some money before coming to us. So in total it was around GH¢7.5 million,” he said in an interview with GhanaWeb TV’s #SayItLoud.

The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt following this disorderly daylight robbery in Adabraka. The incident horrified the community and prompted the police to take urgent action.

In a statement issued on November 2, 2024, police confirmed that a group of armed men targeted the jewelry store, injuring at least one person during the attack. The police promised to apprehend the thieves and bring them to justice.

“Police are looking for a gang of armed robbers who attacked a jewelery shop in Adabraka, Accra on Saturday, November 2, 2024, injuring one person,” the statement said. He concluded: “We would like to assure the public that we will find them and bring them to justice.”
