Guns seen at protests near Hindu temple in Brampton, Peel police said

Peel police have issued a public safety alert saying weapons were seen at a demonstration near a Hindu temple in Brampton Monday night.

Residents were warned to stay away from the demonstration on The Gore Road near Tyler Avenue. The area is close to the Hindu temple Sabha Mandir.

In the alert posted on X, formerly Twitter, police said guns were spotted in the crowd. Police said their public order unit had been deployed to the area.

“This is now an illegal assembly and we will clear the area,” police told X.

Police said members of their public order unit advised people at the demonstration to disperse.

“All parties must leave the area now or face arrest,” police added.

A CBC photographer spotted a protester kicking a car trying to cross the intersection of Gore Road and Don Minaker Drive after the driver honked at the crowd.

The crowd had blocked the traffic after leaving the temple.

The rally comes hours after police announced Monday that three men had been charged in connection with violence in Brampton and Mississauga on Sunday. Police said violence broke out between groups of protesters at a series of demonstrations in those two cities.

Those demonstrations took place outside the same Hindu temple where Monday night’s protest took place, as well as a Sikh gurdwara.
