SALEM — A quartet of thieves turned a shopping trip into a serious crime Monday after stealing more than 30 pairs of “purple” jeans from a local mall retail store and assaulting an employee who tried to intervene.

According to the Salem Police Department, the incident occurred at 1,000 Degrees, a retail store, where the individuals, one dubbed the “baby blue bandit,” decided to take merchandise without paying.

When an employee tried to stop them, they assaulted the worker and fled the scene.

The act constitutes unarmed robbery, a criminal offence, signaling major legal problems for the perpetrators.

The suspects are described as having visible tattoos.

Notably, a suspect with a sleeve tattooed on his right arm and hand also has “2006” inked on his neck.

Authorities are actively seeking information regarding the identities of the four suspects.
