Georgian trio arrested for theft on Italian highway

They had committed a burglary in the house of a pensioner in the province of Rieti, but while they were heading towards the house with the loot towards Naples, they were intercepted by the Caserta Motorway Police precisely because of the high speed. The three men of Georgian origin, all in their 30s, were searched and discovered; thus, they were arrested for aggravated theft. It happened on the Caserta section of the A1, where the car of the three thieves was spotted by a patrol of the Caserta Motorway Police while speeding; the police stopped the vehicle, searched the three men as well, finding three thousand euros in cash, valuables and burglary tools, including so-called “Bulgarian keys”, useful for picking locks. From immediate investigations, the Caserta Highway Police managed to discover a burglary committed a few hours earlier in the province of Rieti, against a pensioner who was absent at the time the thieves struck. The old man, when he returned home, realized that he had been robbed and reported the theft; the stolen material was also found on the three, so the police arrested them and took them to Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison.
