Suspect arrested in attempted kidnapping at gunpoint of Denver-area school-going child

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (KKTV) – A man accused of trying to kidnap a child on his way to school has been linked to several other crimes, according to Westminster police.

The police department announced Friday that they had captured the suspect, 31-year-old Jeremiah Mullins, hours after he allegedly tried to abduct a little girl at gunpoint.

According to the child, she was walking alone on the morning of October 25 when a silver car pulled up next to her and the driver threatened her with a gun and told her to get in.

“The student refused and said the man took her backpack and left in the vehicle,” the police department wrote in a news release about the incident.

The girl managed to get safely to her school, where she reported the attempted abduction.

Police say they arrested Mullins later that day and recovered the gun allegedly used in the attempted kidnapping. The arrest was not made public until a week later, when the police department simultaneously announced that they had linked him to a number of other crimes. Mullins is currently facing charges of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, aggravated motor vehicle theft and possession of a weapon by a prior felon.

Mullins remains in jail Monday morning on $1 million cash-only bail.
