Nightmare Chicago Cubs scenario sees former MVP Slugger connected to the Yankees

The Chicago Cubs enter the offseason on the back of four consecutive missed postseasons, and for most of the nearly ten years since their 2016 World Series title, the team simply hasn’t been very competitive.

With five missed postseasons and two Wild Card sweeps in the eight seasons since 2016Wrigleyville fans haven’t had much to cheer about lately.

Now, the best offensive player on the team looks set to hit free agency in the 2019 National League MVP Cody Bellinger and it could be another dagger in the chest this winter.

Bellinger is under contract but has a player option for $27.5 million that he is expected to opt out of and hit the open market for the third straight season.

After signing a one-year contract before the 2023 season with Chicago, Bellinger he had his best season from his MVP campaign and inked another three-year deal with opt-outs both this winter and 2026 if he chose to opt out this offseason.

When it comes to the possibilities of where Bellinger could sign if he becomes a free agent, FanSided’s Christopher Kline named New York Yankees as a potential apocalyptic scenario that would make Cubs fans sick.

“Cody Bellinger would certainly fill a need for New York, whose outfield depth chart will become horrendously patchy if Juan Soto heads to free agency,” Kline wrote. “But this kind of result is just disgusting. At least choose a more interesting, esoteric destination.”

Kline went on to point out that a former Cubs legend is coming in Anthony Rizzo he has already seen his career take a recession after going to the Yankees and seeing another fan favorite head to the Bronx and take a big money deal from the biggest brand in baseball would be almost too much to bear.

While it wouldn’t necessarily be a disaster from a competitive standpoint if Bellinger were to move across the country and play in the American League, no one wants to see him leave and end up with arguably the worst franchise from sports fresh off a World Series. appearance. If Chicago can’t entice Bellinger to sign up, keep an eye on New York, especially if Juan Soto it ends up somewhere else.
