BBC staff sign letter, accuses BBC of bias in Israel-Gaza coverage

More than 100 BBC employees wrote their names in a letter accusing the corporation of bias in its coverage of the Israel-Gaza conflict.

The Independent the newspaper reports thatIn a letter to director-general Tim Davie, more than 230 members of the media industry, including 100 BBC staff and several public figures, accuse the BBC of favoring Israel in its news broadcasts and of lacking “evidence consistently fair and accurate-based journalism in its coverage of Gaza”.

The letter seen by the newspaper asks the BBC to “report without fear or favour” and “re-commit to the highest editorial standards – with an emphasis on fairness, accuracy and due impartiality”, with commitments including:

  • Reiterating that Israel does not give foreign journalists access to Gaza
  • Highlighting insufficient evidence to support Israeli claims
  • To clarify where Israel is the perpetrator in the headlines
  • Including the usual historical background
  • Challenging Israeli state representatives in interviews

The Independent The paper adds that the BBC has denied the claims, insisting it “strives to live up to our responsibility to deliver the most reliable and impartial news”.
