Shootout in Saraland leaves community on edge; questions to law enforcement remain unanswered

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – It’s been more than 24 hours since a shootout in Saraland left one man injured.

A riddle with a truck riddled with bullet holes, a murder suspect shot, and his name and condition still a mystery.

All this happened in the parking lot of a shopping center off Celeste Road on the afternoon of October 31.

At least six bullet holes can be seen in the windshield of the suspect’s pickup truck.

Clothes and shoes lying on the ground next to his vehicle.

The Saraland Library also caught some of the gunfire. A window in the front of the building, which overlooks the children’s section of the library, was hit by a bullet.

Saraland Library Manager Matt Cobb told FOX10 News once he heard the shots, he rushed to get everyone to safety.

“I looked up front, I saw two people with guns, so I told everybody to get off and get to the back,” Cobb said. “And then the glass broke and there was someone stuck in a study room, but I just told them to sit down. I didn’t expect that in Saraland of all places.”

At the scene yesterday, FOX10 News was told that US officials are writing a press release and will send it out soon. That was over 24 hours ago and nowhere to be found.

FOX10 News’ Natalie Williamson reached out to the US Marshals Office, ALEA and the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force.

Despite several calls and emails, no one answers our questions.

Cobb said he wanted an update for the safety of others.

“I’m a librarian, so I’m naturally very curious,” he said. “I want to know what’s going on.”
