Kamala Harris is not our savior. But a Donald Trump victory would be catastrophic.

I’m pretty confident that most Americans don’t support Trump. He has lost the popular vote twice now; therefore it set the stage to baselessly allege electoral fraud or encourage political violence as a means of retaining power.

But that majority will only make a difference if we show up to vote and organize.

It is not enough to defeat a fascist with razor-thin edges; ideally, it should so high the margin of victory it becomes much harder for Trump and his cronies to claim to represent the will of the American people. That’s why voting even in “sure blue” or “sure red” states counts. To achieve a fairer America, we must pay attention to the democratic popular vote – and if Harris wins, we will have Vice President Tim Walz, who believes, as so many of us dothat “The Electoral College must go.”

I know we all compartmentalized in different ways to get even this close to election day. We avoided the news or ignored the headlines and stories because we had to get on with our lives. But democracy is not guaranteed. It’s a group effort that requires everyone to be involved.

Right now, we have the power to stop Trump. If they win, we may no longer have these tools available. Trump told conservative Christians he just needs them to vote this year and then they will not have to vote again. “Four more years, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians,” he said this summer, one of many comments that should have sparked a weeks-long scandal. news cycle, but it was subsumed by, well, everything else. He has a the army of election deniers ready to fulfill their corrupt and undemocratic demand.

I am any number of things you can do right now until election day: volunteer, phone bank, canvass or knock on doors, write postcards or letters, offer to drive people to the polls, volunteer as an election worker. If you haven’t called voters in your life, now is the time to try. It can be a challengebut life under a Trump-Vance administration would be much more.

Hillary Clinton comfortably won the popular vote in 2016 – by MILLION — but lost the electoral college by a slim margin, in part because people thought they couldn’t make a difference or that the job was best left to someone else.

No one is coming to save us. We must save ourselves and each other. Any of the issues you care about will be impossible to fight for under a Trump administration.

If you have any anxiety or worry about these choices, I urge you to put them into action. No need to put it off or disconnect it anymore. That’s it.

You don’t wake up on November 6th and wish you had done more. Do it now. You still have time.
