Lakers’ LeBron James Talks About Endorsing Kamala Harris For President – Daily News

TORONTO — After endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election Thursday in a social media post, Lakers star LeBron James explained his decision following the team’s 131-125 win over the Toronto Raptors friday evening

“I was going to do it on the day of the game in Cleveland (Wednesday), but I didn’t want to overshadow all of my wealth and Bronny (James) coming home,” LeBron explained. “Then I planned to do it. I thought (Thursday) would be a good day.

“Everything was kind of quiet and I wanted to make sure it was seen, heard and heard strongly. So having a daughter, having a wife, having a mother and things like that, what does she think when it comes to women’s rights, when it comes to the future with my children and where I see the country should be ours, I feel as though that endorsement is fair.”

LeBron posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) and Instagram: “What are we talking about here? When I think about my children and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!”

The post has a video that begins with comedian Tony Hinchcliffe making a racist joke at a rally for former President Donald Trump on Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York. The video ends with the phrase “Hate Takes Us Back” written out.

James endorsed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election and Hillary Clinton prior to the 2016 election.

“And come on, I mean, you guys know me,” James said. “I sure as hell wasn’t going the other way.”

In June 2020, James founded More Than a Vote, a nonprofit organization that fights for Black American voting rights and advocates for criminal justice reform in the US.

Nine-time WNBA All-Star Nneka Ogwumike took over the leadership of the organization earlier this year, focusing her attention on reproductive rights ahead of this year’s election cycle.

“It all started with the ‘shut up and dribble’ thing, obviously,” James said. “And being in a position where you can have some influence and you have a lot of people who want to be able to have influence and be able to speak outside of their realm. Whether it’s sports or music or movies or whatever, whatever the industry is, to be able to have a platform where I’ve been able to gather a lot of men and women to talk since that time.
