SAN FRANCISCO — Zack Minasian and was promoted to general manager of the San Francisco Giants on Friday, joining Perry Minasian of the Los Angeles Angels to make both big league GMs.

Zack Minasian, 41, had been the Giants’ vice president of pro scouting since 2022, three years after joining San Francisco after 14 years with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Perry Minasian became the general manager of the Angels in November 2020.

Zack’s promotion was Buster Posey’s first big move since replacing Farhan Zaidi as president of baseball operations.

During his time in Milwaukee, Minasian served as special advisor to baseball operations, director of pro scouting, minor league scouting manager, personnel/pro scouting coordinator and baseball operations assistant.

“There is so much to appreciate about this organization – an existing core of talent in both the major league and minor league systems, a passionate fan base, an incredible alumni group and the organization’s commitment to the community,” he said. Minasian said in a statement.

Posey, a former All-Star catcher, was hired Sept. 30 after the Giants finished 80-82 in manager Bob Melvin’s first season, one more win than in 2023. San Francisco hasn’t made the playoffs since winning the NL. West in 2021.

Posey, 37, retired in November 2021 and joined the club’s ownership group in September 2022.

“Zack has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the organization in his six years here,” Posey said in a statement. “He’s also a thorough evaluator of talent.”
