MIAMI, Fla. – Farm Share, the third largest food bank in the US and the leading non-profit in Florida received a $190,000 charity check from Publix Super Markets Charities to continue providing Floridians with fresh, healthy food.

The donation helped purchase a new refrigerated truck, making it possible to deliver fresh, nutritious meals to people at home for the elderly and disabled, as well as in areas hard to reach with standard delivery vehicles.

This assistance highlights the importance of expanding access to food for Floridians in need, especially after Florida was hit by two major hurricanes, Helen and Milton.

“For decades, Publix Super Markets Charities has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring Florida families have access to healthy, wholesome food,” said Stephen Shelley, Farm Share CEO. “With this extraordinary donation, we can extend our relationships to even more vulnerable communities, bringing fresh food directly to those who need it most. We are so grateful for Publix Super Markets Charities’ continued partnership in the fight against hunger in our state.”

Farm Share, founded in 1991 in Homestead, began with the innovative concept of recovering unused food and redistributing it to those in need. As the company has grown, so has its expansion, and now serves the entire state of Florida as its homegrown food bank.

Farm Share is the state’s largest independent food bank and the nation’s third largest. Wall Street called it the #1 food bank in America.

According to Food Share, “We are focused on fighting food insecurity in Florida while reducing food waste from local farms. The Farm Share team redistributes fresh fruits and vegetables from Florida farmers to benefit neighborhoods and communities in need in all 67 Florida counties.”
