New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson made what could turn out to be the catch of the year on Thursday, but he wasn’t too willing to accept the comparisons to another famous catch.

Wilson was widely praised for his outstanding touchdown catch in Thursday’s win over the Houston Texans at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Wilson made a one-handed grab, then managed to put a leg and a shin down for a touchdown that changed the game. (video here).

Of course, the catch drew comparisons to Odell Beckham Jr.’s catch in the same stadium ten years ago, but Wilson didn’t buy into them entirely.

“Odell’s was different. And he went down two feet. The ball was going to land out of bounds. I’m Odell, man. Odell vs. Cowboys. That was it. For that to even come up in that (conversation), I’m blessed.”

When a reporter pointed out that the Giants actually lost the game in which Beckham made his famous catch, Wilson had a funny response.

“Okay. Fair enough, grinned Wilson.

The Jets went on to win the game, so Wilson’s effort was not in vain. In fact, this could turn out to be a season-changing win for the team.

For many, Beckham’s grip will still be definitive. Wilson is right, though – it’s remarkable that his catch is worth the comparison. He should be proud.
