Jeffery Lamar Williams, aka Rapper Young Thug, was released from prison Thursday night after pleading guilty to gang involvement, drug and weapons charges.

The Grammy Award winner was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison after being arrested on racketeering and gang-related charges. With this, the longest criminal trial in the history of Georgia came to an end.

Reacting to the news in a text message to WSB-TV, Thug’s girlfriend, Mariah The Scientist, said “it’s the biggest opportunity” and they’re thankful to God.

“Thank you God, thank you God. This is more than we asked for. We are so grateful, this is the greatest opportunity that has ever been given to us and we are so grateful.”

The R&B singer also thanked Superior Court Judge Paige Whitaker and other attorneys who worked on the case.

“Thank you Judge Paige Whitaker for giving us the opportunity to move on with our lives! Thank you Lord. Thank you to Brian Steel and Keith Adams and every attorney working tirelessly on this case. THANK YOU! I can’t say enough, I can’t repay you for it. You changed our lives, Jeffery’s life and mine. Thank you to everyone who stood by us, to every fan, who believed in us and prayed for us.”

Mariah Buckles aka Mariah the Scientist made her album debut Master in 2019 and continued to give hits like Beetlejuice, Thank you 4 Nothing, and REMINDERS.

She is known for her relationship with rapper Young Thug. The couple sparked dating rumors in 2021. Their relationship was confirmed when Mariah openly showed some love to her boyfriend during a performance at Outside Lands in San Francisco.

“Now, you know I have a man. He hung up. Release my father!” Mariah spoke to her fans.

In addition to her relationship, the “scientist” part of her name has often been questioned in interviews. Revealing the reason, Mariah explained in one of her interviews that she chose biology as a subject in college, which led to the name Maria The Scientist.

The singer also revealed that later in her career she decided to quit and make music.

“So, no, Mariah The Scientist isn’t really a singer,”

she calls it Wake Check and adds:

“He’s a freaking scientist and then he decided to make music.”

In one of the other interviews, Mariah also explained how loved ones liked to call her by this name, so she never thought about changing it.


Charges against rapper Young Thug

Young Thug pleaded guilty to six charges, one for his participation in criminal street activity, three drug charges for violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, one for possession of a firearm while committing a felony, and one for possession of a machine gun.

According to the plea agreement, the rapper will serve 15 years of probation.

Upon completion of probation without any violations of the rules, another 20 years will be commuted for time served. If the singer is caught violating the conditions, he will have to serve an additional 20 years on any sentence by the court.
