Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation, and Founder and Chairperson of the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council (Irthi), attended the first conference of the Arab Cultural Institute, inaugurated by Her Highness To Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in Milan under the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) in August last year.

The institute, located at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, is the first institute in Italy dedicated to promoting dialogue between Arab and Western civilizations while celebrating Arab achievements in science and the arts.

His Highness toured the institute, exploring the departments and programs throughout the year.

Sheikha Jawaher also joined a symposium entitled “Design as a means of communication” and participated in a workshop for children from the Arab community in Milan. This workshop aligns with the institute’s ongoing mission to strengthen Arabic communication skills among young Arabs in Italy.

The conference featured the film “Khorfakkan”, based on His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi’s book Khorfakkan’s Resistance Against the Portuguese Invasion of September 1507.

At the “Design as a Means of Communication” symposium, His Highness reflected on the historical impact of fashion design as a cultural bridge, noting how Arab culture has influenced and absorbed the influences of others over the centuries. His Highness described this cultural exchange as enriching when it respects each nation’s heritage and emphasized the importance of preserving traditional crafts and fashion, which play a central role in cross-cultural communication.

His Highness also highlighted the work of the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, which he founded to promote Emirati crafts through collaborations in areas such as fashion and jewellery. Irthi has successfully introduced Emirati craftsmanship to both Eastern and Western audiences, exhibiting Emirati heritage in prestigious international venues.

A center that invites engagement with the heritage and aspirations of Arab culture, Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri said: “The Arab Cultural Institute embodies a gateway to Arab thought and creativity for the Western world, promoting dialogue, mutual respect and recognition of civilizational contributions to the formation of humanity. history.
