Garrett Wilson catch: Jets WR evokes Odell Beckham Jr. with one-handed touchdown against Texans

Garrett Wilson probably won the title of “Catch of the Year” in the “Thursday Night Football” showdown between the Jets and the Texans.

Then he did it again.

New York has already pulled off one of its most impressive catches of the campaign in the third quarter, plucking Aaron Rodgers’ deft effort out of the sky while eluding Jalen Pitre’s watchful eye.

Two minutes into the fourth quarter, he added to his drama, taking a place in the NFL’s elite Pantheon alongside Odell Beckham Jr., Justin Jefferson and a handful of other talented acrobats.

Here’s what you need to know.

Facing third-and-long, Rodgers and the Jets, up 10-7, had no real desire to sulk off the field for the punting unit. So Rodgers threw a pass to Wilson’s back shoulder, hoping his budding protection could handle it — as he did in the third.

Wilson burst into life as the ball rushed to him. Moving his legs like a gymnast preparing for a vault, Wilson jumped, extended his trusty right hand and took the wild pass.

The play was initially ruled incomplete, but replay review exonerated Wilson, revealing that while dismounting, he (somehow) ran his shin over the end zone before falling out of the game.

The catch immediately drew comparisons with Beckham’s famous strike at the same stadium some 10 years ago. More importantly, it gave Gang Green a decisive 14-10 lead.
