Randall County Sheriff’s Office provides update on jail expansion

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Randall County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) has provided an update on the expansion of the Randall County Jail.

According to a press release, RCSO began the expansion on August 8, 2023.

The expansion includes 96 new beds in addition to the current 454 beds.

The expansion is expected to be completed in January 2025.

The expansion also created seven new jobs for correctional officers in the Randall County Jail.

Requirements for employment as a correctional officer include:

Must be 18 years old
Must be a citizen of the United States
Must have a high school diploma or GED
Must be a TCOLE licensed jailer within one year of hire
Must pass required physical agility test
Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and insurance
Have and maintain a good driving record
Ability to read and write English
Ability to meet specific physical requirements as may be established by department administration
