More than 6.2 million Florida voters cast their ballots, either at early voting locations or by mail, according to a Thursday morning report from the Florida Division of Elections.

That’s close to half of Florida’s nearly 14 million registered voters eligible for the Nov. 5 election. In the 2020 election, nearly 80% of Floridians who voted he did it before election day.

While more Democrats have returned mail-in ballots than Republicans so far, more than 1.9 million Republicans turned out to vote early, according to the latest report, compared to just over a million Democrats. However, more than 730,000 voters with no party affiliation cast early ballots, along with nearly 88,000 ballots from voters listed as “other.”

When does early voting end in Florida?

Early voting runs through Saturday, per state and federal mandate, but some counties will also be open Sunday. Early voting for Pinellas and Taylor counties was extended until Election Day due to damage and disruption caused by Hurricane Milton in an executive order issued by Governor Ron DeSantis

Mail-in ballots will be counted as long as they arrive at the Supervisor of Elections office by 7:00 PM on Election Day, which means that it may be too late now to mail them. Use boxes, take them to the election office or hand them in and vote in person.

Starting with “closing the books” on October 7there were 13,949,168 people registered to vote in the November 5 elections. The breakdown of the five largest groups was:

  • Republicans: 5,499,717
  • Democrats: 4,421,790
  • No party affiliation: 3,616,170
  • Independent Party: 276,467
  • Libertarian Party: 35,964

According to the Florida Division of Elections, here’s how mail-in and early voting is going in Florida as of 8:12 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31:

  • Voted by mail: 2,482,331 (17.8% of registered voters)
  • Postal ballots requested but not yet returned: 1,039,744
  • Voted early: 3,743,643 (26.8% of registered voters)
  • Total votes cast: 6,225,974 (44.6% of registered voters)

When is the 2024 presidential election?

The general election will take place on Tuesday 5 November. The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

To vote on election day, you must vote in your designated constituency.

When are early voting and mail-in ballots counted in Florida?

Florida law allows it ballots to be processed as soon as they are received and calculated as soon as the county has completed public testing of the automatic tabulation equipment. The the results are kept secret and releasing them early is an offence.

Will we know the results on election night in Florida?

There will likely, and almost certainly will be enough votes counted to project the winners. When polls close, the results already received will be posted. More will be added as returns come in from around the country.

But no state can count every vote until election night, and results can change days or even weeks later. Votes that will be counted after Election Day include:

  • Ballots from absent military personnel and overseas nationalswho have up to 10 days to receive their ballots as long as they are postmarked by Election Day.
  • Provisional ballots cast at the polls by voters without proper ID or with minor errors that were later “cured” or verified as eligible. If additional information is needed, Florida voters have until 5:00 p.m. the day after the election to submit it.
  • Ballots that have been challenged and subsequently cured and counted.
