Candidates for the 2nd Congressional District are making their final push before Election Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – In the last days of the campaign, candidates from Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District are making last-minute efforts to sway voters to their side.

from Tuesday general elections it will be the first since District 2 was redrawn.

In the shadow of the Rosa Parks statue, Democrat Shomari Figures rallied supporters in Montgomery just days before Election Day.

“This race is an opportunity for us as a people, as a community, as a new district, to continue to build on that progress of equal representation for African Americans in this state,” Figures said.

US Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joined Montgomery figures for three campaign events. He said numbers will put people before politics.

“And fight for the things that matter, to make sure there’s an economy that works for every person in the district they’re going to represent in the United States House of Representatives,” Jeffries said.

Figures, who worked in the Obama White House, faces Republican Caroleene Dobson, a real estate attorney and political newcomer.

SECTOR 2 DEBATES

“I’ve been across the district, and whether they’re here in Montgomery, or in Mobile, or all the rural counties in between, people are ready for change,” Dobson said.

Dobson says if elected, she will advocate for families.

“We have the best people in the world. We have incredible resources, but we need inflation to be reduced. We need our communities to be safer,” she said.

District 2 includes Montgomery, most of Mobile and covers all or part of 13 counties from the Georgia line to the Mississippi line.

Both Dobson and Figures say they have big plans to improve District 2, but first they have to win the race.
