Heidi Klum might have some controversial opinions when it comes to pizza!

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, the supermodel, 51, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE at the debut of Crazy Pizza NYCthe newest location of the upscale pizza chain.

Opening up about her controversial favorite pizza toppings, Klum — who is a partner and investor in the New York location — talked about working with her ex, Italian businessman Flavio Briatore.

According to the model, she and Briatore — the biological father of her daughter, Leni20-year-old, who was also present at the restaurant’s opening – had a “big fight” when deciding which toppings would be on the menu.

“One thing I argued with Flavio about – because, you know, I’m German and in Germany we have Hawaiian pizza – is pineapple and ham,” America has talent the judge revealed. “I grew up on Hawaiian pizza, so it has pineapple on it, but Italians think that’s the worst thing on the planet.”

The model recalled Briatore telling her, “They’re like, ‘There’s no way. We don’t do that.” And I said, “But why?” There are a lot of tourists or so I hear.”

“Besides, I’m also a partner. So I feel like I should have a say,” she joked. “So he said, ‘Okay.’ But normally he says, “There’s no way not to make Hawaiian pizza.” I say, ‘Well, in Germany, the Italians are in Germany and (so are) my friends’ from Australia (go-to)’.

Although Briatore and Klum’s relationship ended before she had Leni, the model said she and her ex worked well together — and her husband, Tom Kaulitzshe was also present at the opening, alongside her sons Johan, 17, and Lou, 15. She also shares 19-year-old Henry with Seal.

“Leni’s biological father, Flavio, asked me to be a partner with him and his pizza ventures,” she said, referring to Crazy Pizza’s 14 locations worldwide. “So this is the first in America, to come.”

“He looks so cute,” she added. “I’m so happy with it… I think it looks amazing. It’s super chic. And obviously the food is amazing and we leave that to the Italians.”

Elsewhere in her conversation with PEOPLE, Klum teased what she has in store for her Halloween 2024 costumeas she is known for extravagant Halloween costumes at her annual Halloween party in New York

“I’m always anxious,” the German-born star said of planning her costumes. “Because there is no real process. for example, I can’t make an actual match before entering it. Because I never know if it works until the day(s). And then you know, and then something happens and I’m like, “Oh my god.”

Located in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood at 218 Lafayette St., Crazy Pizza will open to the public on November 6.
