A CHANCE TO CLEAR A FARM? It could have been done on a fascinating elementary school trip, the kind of great educational outing that has remained dear to our hearts for decades. But finding opportunities to enjoy an informative open house at a busy farm can be harder to come by as the years go by. We will, however, have the opportunity to recapture the spirit of past field trips on an enriching fall Saturday, a day when more than a dozen Ventura County farms will welcome visitors for in-depth discussions, interesting looks, tastings, and activities. It’s Ventura County Farm Day, presented by Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG), and it’s back for another joyous visit full of memorable experiences on the first Saturday in November.

Fifteen FARMS… some agriculture-related destinations will also be participating, so you’ll want to read carefully Farm day route map before leaving on November 2. Participants include the Ventura County Museum of Agriculture — kids will be able to try a pretend produce booth — and the Petty Ranch in Saticoy, where the SEEAG Farm to Food Lab will be a centerpiece. Other stops will feature flower, strawberry, olive oil and alpaca growers, so expect a variety of great experiences and knowledge-building. The open houses are free, but be sure to secure your free ticket through Ventura County Farm Day the website.
