The Royal Historical Theater will open

Decades after closing as the Hogansville Theater and over a year of construction and rehabilitation, the Royal Theater will once again serve the region as a live performance space and local movie theater. A grand opening gala is scheduled for Saturday, November 9th to rededicate the fully restored Art Deco theater with a performance by Joe Gransden and his Big Band.

Bandleader Joe Gransden has performed all over the world and released 19 CDs under his own name name. First renowned for his hard bop approach to his trumpet, Gransden’s playing the voice has been compared to that of Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra. “Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember,” says the unassuming Joe Gransden. “I remember practicing with my dad and eventually he would get me to sit in on jam sessions. When I was still in high school, I knew that music was the life I would choose.”

A post-performance party is planned for everyone attending the show to celebrate the reopening of the city’s national landmark.

The Theater Royal will host a wide range of shows and artists throughout the year, including HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS with Peobo Bryson, Ruben Studdard and Haley Reinhart on December 13th and 14th. A program of classic and contemporary films will be screened throughout the weekend, and the Theater will host the Calloway School’s concerts and performances.
