Hyderabad: If the plans of Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) comes to fruition, students will take the Telangana Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TG EAPCET) in the month of April, a month earlier than usual.

The Board prepares syllabus advancement plans for the Common Entrance Tests (CET) held for admission to various professional programs in the state. As per the plan, the EAPCET notification is expected in the month of February 2025, followed by the entrance test in April, with the aim of starting classes by July.

The move is part of a strategy to address the disruption caused to the academic calendars of all professional courses by the Covid-19 pandemic in the past. The programs, which were affected by the pandemic, are still not back on track.

While TG EAPCET 2024 the notification was issued on February 21 with exams held between May 7-11, admissions to pharmacy, biotechnology and agriculture, and related branches were ongoing.

However, the success of this move depends on several factors, including affiliation by the universities concerned. The Indian Council for Technical Education, responsible for approving technical colleges, finalizes its permits every year by June 30.

After this, the universities, in particular Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) – Hyderabad is forming fact-finding committees to inspect colleges before granting affiliation for the new academic year. Universities often finalize affiliation in July when admissions counseling begins.

Apart from TG EAPCET, the Board also plans to advance ECET, ICET, PGECET and LAWCET programmes.

“There is a need to put the academic calendars that have been disrupted due to Covid-19 back in order. There is a plan to advance all CETs with TG EAPCET in April, a month earlier than usual, with a view to start work in the engineering class in July,” said a senior official.
