LGBTQ+ voters in Las Vegas express concerns and hopes ahead of election

As Election Day approaches, members of the LGBTQ+ community in Las Vegas are voicing their concerns and hopes for the future, with many focusing on issues of rights and representation.

Jackie Smith, a supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris, stressed the importance of standing up for one’s beliefs.

“Pride is being proud of who you are,” Smith said. “You stand up for what you believe in.”

Jocelyn Dorsey, also a Harris supporter, emphasized the importance of gay rights and marriage equality.

“We fought hard for it,” Dorsey said. “I’m actually an ordained minister and I’ve done a few weddings here and I’d love to see them get taken.”

John Walker, another Harris supporter, pointed to women’s rights and the economy as critical issues.

“I think women’s rights are huge,” Walker said. “I think the economy is also a big thing.”

Instead, Christina Clark, a transgender Trump supporter, expressed her support for former President Donald Trump, citing economic concerns and social issues.

“We had a great economy when he was president,” Clark said. “I agree with everything he says. I don’t think men should be in women’s sports.”

While Clark looks forward to a potential second term for Trump, others in the community are expressing concern. Smith expressed concern about the implications of another Trump presidency.

“I’m worried about everybody, immigrants, lesbians, everybody,” Smith said. “It’s the difference between democracy and autocracy.”

Despite differing opinions, the LGBTQ+ community remains united in their desire for a future where their rights are protected and their voices heard.
