Robert Jenrick blasted Kemi Badenoch for shouting “rubbish” as the Tory leadership descended into acrimony.

He accused his bitter rival of “misinformation” and “petty personal attacks” as the gloves came off.

Mr Jenrick’s outburst comes just days before polls close in the replacement contest Rishi Sunak as a conservative leader.

The former Cabinet Secretary hit out as he responded to Ms Badenoch’s comments as she questioned his track record.

In her fiercest attacks of the campaign so far, the front-runner insisted she had “never been fired” and suggested Mr Jenrick was, when in government, because of a “smell of impropriety”.

She told the Sunday Telegraph: “Integrity matters to me, you would have a leader where there is no scandal.

“I’ve never been fired for anything, I’ve never had to resign in disgrace or, you know, because there was a whiff of impropriety,” she said, in an apparent reference to Mr. Jenrick’s involvement in a dispute of planning when he lived. secretary.”

Asked about today’s remarks, Mr Jenrick told GB News it was a “huge shame” that Ms Badenoch had chosen to “stretch out” the leadership contest in recent days.

“If Kemi does this to fellow Tories, it will be the death of the party. I want to end the drama and petty disputes,” he said.

Mr Jenrick and Ms Badenoch have been confirmed as the final two candidates in the running for success Rishi Sunak earlier this month, a surprise result in a Tory MP poll saw the former home secretary Smart James eliminated from the race.

Voting will close on October 31st and the winner will be confirmed on November 2nd.
