New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the issue “digital arrest” in episode 115 of ‘Mann Ki Baat‘, labeling it as fraudulent activity. He urged people to remain vigilant and safe.

The prime minister emphasized that those involved in the crime are enemies of society. “There is no system like digital arrest in law, this is just fraud, cheating, lying, a gang of criminals and those who do this are enemies of society,” the prime minister warned.

Addressing the growing cases and concerns of techno-crime, PM Modi informed the audience that various investigative agencies are collaborating with state governments to combat these fraudulent schemes. He said to improve coordination between these agencies, the National Cyber Coordination Center was established.

“This initiative aims to strengthen efforts against cyber crime and protect citizens from such scams, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety in the digital realm,” the Prime Minister said.

“Beware of Digital Arrest Scams… No investigative agency will ever contact you by phone or video call for questions… Scammers who make digital arrest phone calls sometimes look at the police, CBI and narcotics; and sometimes RBI… using such different labels they converse as fake officers with much confidence. Many listeners of “#MannKiBaat” wanted us to discuss this. Let me tell you how these fraud gangs work. What is this dangerous game? It is very important that you understand this and it is equally important that others understand it,” said the Prime Minister.

During the radio talk, PM Modi played a video to make people understand the gravity of the crime. While making the audience understand the modus operandi, PM Modi said, “The first move… They collect all your personal information… “You were in Goa last month, weren’t you? Your daughter is studying in Delhi right? They collect so much information about you that you will be surprised.”

“Second move – create an atmosphere of fear… Uniforms, government office setup, legal departments… will scare you so much on the phone… In the middle of the conversation, you won’t even be able to think. And then their third move begins – time pressure. “

You have to decide now or you will be arrested, these people create so much psychological pressure on the victim that one gets scared. People from every class and age group fall victim to digital arrest.

People lost thousands of rupees earned through their hard work, out of sheer fear. Whenever you get such a call, don’t panic. You must be aware that no investigating agency ever inquires in this way through a phone call or a video call,” the prime minister said.

PM Modi listed the three steps towards digital security. These three steps are: “Stop, Think, Take Action” As soon as you get a call, stop… don’t panic, stay calm, don’t take any hasty action, don’t give your information to anyone. personal; if possible, take a screenshot and save it for sure.

After this comes the second step. The first step was “stop” and the second step was “think”.

No government agency threatens you over the phone like this, solicits or demands money for a video call like this. If you feel scared then you know something is wrong.

The first step, the second step and now I explain the third step. In the first step I said – “Stop”… in the second step I said – “Think” and the third step tells you – “Act”.

He also mentioned the national cyber helpline 1930, or report on cybercrime.gov.in, or inform the family and police and preserve the evidence.

“Stop, then think and then act, these three steps will become the protector of your digital security,” said the Prime Minister.

The prime minister said thousands of such fraudulent video calling IDs have been blocked by agencies. Thousands of SIM cards, mobile phones and bank accounts were also blocked.

“Agencies are doing their job, but for protection against scams in the name of digital arrest, it is very important that everyone is aware, every citizen is aware. Those who are victims of this type of cyber fraud should inform as many people as possible about it. You can use #SafeDigitalIndia for awareness,” said the Prime Minister.

PM Modi also asked schools and colleges to involve students in the campaign against cyber scams. “We can fight this challenge only with collective efforts in society,” he said.
