Jasper plans to open a drop-in center

Jasper plans to open a drop-in center

JASPER, Ala. (WBRC) – A drop-in center could soon be coming to the town of Jasper.

Jasper Main Street bought a white building at the corner of 4th Avenue and 18th Street West downtown. Last week, the group moved into the building to use as office space.

That’s not all they want to do with it. Executive Director Mike Putman said the plan is to turn it into a drop-in center; the only one between Birmingham and the Mississippi line.

And he has big dreams for it, hoping to have touchscreen travel kiosks and coloring books, video walls and more.

Putman says it’s all to build more tourism for the area.

“Because there are so many great things going on here, if we can bring them into the area, let them know what’s going on, they’ll come in and of course they’ll spend money, which is what we want them to do. We want them to enjoy the area, of course, but we want them to spend some money,” he explained.

Putman said how quickly they open the drop-in center is based on how quickly they can raise enough funds. You can donate to Jasper Main Street at this link on their main website.
