Zelensky signs law allowing foreigners to serve as officers in the International Legion

President Volodymyr Zelensky officially signed a bill on October 25 that allows foreign volunteers fighting in the International Legion of Ukraine to serve as officers.

Until now, volunteers could only fight as privates or sergeants.

Zelensky COMPLETED adoption of the draft law after the parliament of Ukraine unanimously adopted changes to the bill that led to the changes.

The Ukrainian International Legion was launched at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, attracting foreigners who volunteered to defend Ukraine.

Citizens from over 50 countries have joined the unit since the start of the full-scale invasion, including military veterans from the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Europe and beyond, Ukraine. military intelligence said.

The Legion is composed of two units, one under the jurisdiction of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the other subordinate to the Military Intelligence Agency (HUR).

Initially hailed as a PR success, it was soon marred by scandals and stories about deviations.
