The Rochester conference was aimed at ending gun violence

ROCHESTER, NY — The ROC Coalition Against Gun Violence held its first youth conference Saturday at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Dozens of young people were present along with educators and community leaders. They shared what local leaders need to do to ensure Rochester’s children don’t have to live in fear of gun violence.

“They said they want to have more free events and give them an opportunity to share solutions,” said Willie Lightfoot, founder and city councilor of the ROC Against Gun Violence Coalition.

The conference included speakers, raffles, free haircut vouchers and partnerships with city youth groups. Lightfoot says there are plans to make this conference an annual event.
