The Vanderbilt Commodores fall short of another historic win against the Longhorns

While Vanderbilt Commodores they held him close again he didn’t have enough chaos for their second Top 25 win in school history.

The Commodores fell 27-24 Texas Longhornsbeing only short of another historic victory.

Not to sound like a broken record from the last two weeks, but that was it another gutsy performance from advisor Diego Pavia.

“Pavia has run out of magic,” was an unfortunately accurate call from the show though. The team failed to convert a clutch fourth down, leading to the fan favorite pick that ended up being an easy interception for the Longhorns defense.

It was not a day when completed the statistics sheetbut he battled a knee injury to return to the field.

After entering the game with just one interception on the season, the senior quarterback ended up throwing in this one.

The second resulted in the dagger touchdown that put Texas ahead by two scores with less than two minutes remaining.

The the time of possession in it was much more favored than how the Longhorns usually win games. Vanderbilt has typically kept its games close this season with long, methodical drives and keeping the ball out of opponents’ hands. There was much more even in this one.

But that could have been the difference between victory and defeat.

There was a long stretch in this one where Quinn Ewers completed 17 straight passes. That’s when Texas built a 21-7 lead that made it look like it was starting to get out of hand.

It’s hard to compete whenever you can’t stop the opposing team’s defender from completing a pass.

The defense deserves some shine for their role in this one, though, as they were disruptive enough to keep it close while the offense struggled to put points on the board.

Sophomore linebacker Bryan Longwell once again led the team in tackles, already entering the day with a nine-tackle lead for season totals. He didn’t beat Ewers in this one, but he shined in run defense.

In terms of breakouts, fellow secondary Randon Fontenette was the most impactful. He played a role in bringing down the Longhorns passer on two separate plays as well as breaking up a pass.

Next up for the Commodores is a matchup with Auburn Tigers.
