Haitian gang coalition spreads violence in Port-au-Prince neighborhood, setting houses on fire

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — A coalition of gangs has stepped up its attacks on one of the few communities in Haiti’s capital not under the control of criminal groups, trying to take it over. After a week of clashes with police in the Solino neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, members of the Viv Ansanm gang coalition attacked again, torching several homes, as the national police union warned the area was almost under control. of the shipowners. As Saturday morning dawned, images on social media showed the neighborhood engulfed in smoke and flames. The attacks have displaced more than 10,000 people in the capital in just one week, according to a report released Thursday by the UN’s International Organization for Migration.
