Burglar suspect nabbed in Cottage Grove

A would-be thief was caught Friday morning in Cottage Grove after allegedly trying to steal from cars.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, Cottage Grove police were notified that a man was trying to break into vehicles in the 6600 block of 94th Street South.

During their investigation in the area, police said the cars showed signs of tampering.

Officers later located a suspect, identified as Cebrian Omar Sims, 36, of Cottage Grove, along the 8300 block of 85th Street.

“I am grateful to the responding officers, the Sheriff’s Office and the investigators who are all doing an outstanding job in handling this case,” said Cottage Grove Public Safety Director Peter Koerner. “While these crimes are never ideal or okay, it is an unusual occurrence in Cottage Grove. We always encourage our citizens to make sure their cars and homes are locked and to call 9-1-1 if you see anything suspicious.”

Sims was arraigned on charges related to burglary, theft and tampering with a motor vehicle.
