State agencies will hold drug busts on Saturday

(WSAW) – This coming Saturday is National Drug Take Back Day, when more than 155 events are planned across Wisconsin on October 26th.

With more than 275 participating law enforcement agencies, Wisconsin residents are encouraged to dispose of unwanted and unused medications.

“Take Back Drugs Day provides an excellent opportunity to safely dispose of your unused and unwanted medications,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul. “Please consider bringing your unwanted medications to a medication take-back event or to a permanent medication disposal box.”

Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposal while also educating the community about the potential abuse and consequences of improper storage and disposal of these drugs.

Unused or expired medication should never be flushed or poured down the drain. Water reclamation plants are not designed to remove all pharmaceuticals, and trace amounts appear in rivers and lakes.

To ensure the success of Drug Take Back Day, the Wisconsin DOJ relies on the assistance of the DEA, Wisconsin DHS, and all participating local law enforcement agencies.
