E. coli cases rise in Missouri linked to Quarter Pounder outbreak

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – There are now four reported cases of E. coli in Missouri linked to the ongoing outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services tells KCTV5 that the number of E. coli cases reported in the state increased during the week. At least three new cases were reported on Friday, October 25, bringing the total in the state to four.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted that these cases are related to the ongoing investigation into the outbreak, which is moving quickly. Most of those who reported cases also said that a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburger led to their symptoms.

The CDC indicated that McDonald’s has removed ingredients from its burgers and taken them off the menu in some states. Currently, there are 75 people who have passed through the outbreak.

Health officials have warned that the outbreak cannot be limited to states with known disease. The actual number of sick people is probably higher than reported. This may be due to the ability to recover without medical care.

Currently, cases have been reported in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Washington and Oregon. Colorado has the highest number of reported cases.

Those who think they have contracted the disease should visit a healthcare provider.
