Tariq Baugh and Antonio Anderson were arrested following a narcotics investigation

DECATUR, Ala. (Waffle) – Two men were arrested Tuesday in connection with a narcotics investigation in Morgan County, officials announced Friday.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the department’s Drug Enforcement Unit conducted an investigation following a months-long narcotics operation at a residence on 6th Ave. from Decatur.

Authorities said during the operation they initiated a traffic stop on one of the suspects, Tariq Dewayne Baugh, 31, of Decatur.

Agents discovered that Baugh had allegedly thrown a quantity of marijuana out the window of his vehicle.

Baugh was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Dangerous drugs-Cocaine-Sell/Distribute
  • Dangerous drugs-Cocaine-Sell/Distribute
  • Dangerous drugs-Cocaine-Sell/Distribute
  • Alteration of physical evidence
  • Dangerous drugs-POM
  • Dangerous Drugs-POC Cocaine-Possess

He was booked into the Morgan County Jail with bail set at $753,800.

While continuing to investigate, agents discovered another suspect in the case while conducting surveillance on the home.

The sheriff’s office said Antonio Cortez Anderson, 28, of Decatur, was seen leaving the residence.

Anderson left the residence and traveled on Memorial Dr. NW and officers then initiated a traffic stop.

When agents activated lights and sirens, Anderson allegedly then ran from authorities.

Anderson was eventually caught on 23rd Ave. SW after being chased through Decatur. Anderson surrendered to agents after the chase.

The sheriff’s office said Anderson was immediately taken into custody. He was charged with the following:

  • Dangerous Drugs-Marijuana-Smuggling
  • Attempting to elude a police officer (felony).

He was booked into the Morgan County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Following the arrests, agents returned to the residence and found crack cocaine, marijuana, and firearms.

The investigation remains ongoing, with additional arrests and possible more charges.
