Texas and Louisiana Drivers Told to ‘Slow Down’ This Morning

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a “dense fog” warning for parts of Texas and Louisiana, urging drivers to take precautions.

The advisory was issued at 4 a.m. CDT on Friday and will remain in effect until 10 a.m. CDT this morning.

NWS Lake Charles, Louisiana says visibility may be reduced to a quarter mile or less in dense fog. The recommendation applies to the following sections: central, south-central, southwestern, and west-central Louisianaas well as southeast Texas.

The NWS said low visibility could make driving conditions “hazardous.” As a precaution, the service urged people to “slow down”, use headlights and leave enough space in front of them while driving. through dense fog. The NWS added that allowing extra time to reach your destination is encouraged.

The advisory specifically applies to the following Texas counties and Louisiana parishes:

Vernon, Rapides, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Allen, Evangeline, St. Landry, Lafayette, Upper St. Martin, Lower St. Martin, West Cameron, East Cameron, North Calcasieu, North Jefferson Davis, North Acadia, Upper Vermilion, Upper Iberia, Upper St. Mary, South Calcasieu, South Jefferson Davis, South Acadia, Lower Vermilion, Lower Iberia, Lower St. Mary, Tyler-Hardin, North Jasper, North Newton, South Jasper, South Newton, Upper Jefferson, North Orange, Lower Jefferson and South Orange.

An NWS forecast, valid Friday through Sunday, paints a picture of weather events that will occur across the rest of the country over the next few days.

“A wave of low pressure over the Mid-Mississippi Valley will move northeastward off the Northeast Coast Saturday evening. The system will produce showers and thunderstorms across portions of the Mid-Mississippi/Ohio Valleys through Friday evening,” the NWS forecast said. “The system will also produce rain across parts of the Great Lakes through Saturday afternoon.”

“Intermittent rain will fall across parts of the Northeast Friday night into early Sunday morning. Rain will also fall intermittently along the southern Atlantic front from Saturday evening through Sunday. Rain will also fall across parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley early Saturday.” hours until Sunday.”

Meanwhile, it will move inland over the Pacific Northwest Friday night and inland by Sunday morning, according to weather forecasts.

“The storm will cause rain across parts of the Pacific Northwest late Friday night. Rain will continue to move inland on Saturday, move into Northern California late Saturday night, and continue through Sunday,” the NWS said.

“Elsewhere, coastal flow from the Atlantic will trigger scattered rain across parts of Florida from Saturday afternoon through Sunday.”
